Since I married Ted Angle 52 years ago, I’ve had a lot of fun with my last name. The puns seem almost endless. It used to bother me when people would pun my name but over the years I realized life is too short now to have fun, life is too serious to make a big deal out of things that really don’t matter and life is too precious not to approach it with joy…and a sense of humor.

You will find my thoughts here on this blog in 500 words or less. They are my opinion and everyone is welcome to comment. Whether you agree or disagree, the exchange of ideas is healthy and the bedrock or our first amendment freedom of speech. With so many willing to cancel this and other freedoms, we need a revival in the public square. This is my attempt open that square to all.

To those who may get their feelings hurt by my opinion, I say get a thicker skin. Injury is never my intention but truth is and sometimes the truth hurts. Over my years as an artist, teacher, author and politician I have placed myself in an arena open to criticism. Critical thought is welcome, personal attack and foul language are below the belt punches. No one likes a dirty fighter or troll. Those who resort to this type of discourse or enjoy being mean and vulgar will be blocked and uninvited.

To make this a really great place to express ourselves, let’s follow some guidelines. First the Constitution is always a good place to start. The writings of the Founding Fathers hearken us back to history. We all know those who forget the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it. Second, good debate requires critical thinking. Critical thinking and debate have nearly become lost arts. Critical thinking and good debate are based on facts. You know, knowledge or information based on real occurrences. Something demonstrated to exist or known to have existed. A real occurrence; an event. Facts can be well documented and should be in any meaningful discussion. If there is no documentation, then it’s just an opinion and like my daddy used to say, “Opinions are like belly-buttons, everybody has one.” So let’s make our debate based on facts and truth. Just like the good-old days. “I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God.”
